Our Services

Children’s Vision

Many people are unaware that normal eye development can be assessed from infancy to ensure children are reaching visual milestones. Your child does not need to be able to read letters to have an eye test and much can be learned about vision and binocularity in a paediatric eye examination.

Visual screening conducted through the pre-school Steps program is a fantastic service to isolate children who may have issues but it does not replace an examination.

We work in co management programs with paediatric ophthalmologists, specialise in individual boutique children’s eye wear and children’s contact lens fitting.

Contact Lens Fitting

Lloyd Hewett was a pioneer of contact lens fitting in Australia and our practitioners have been enthusiastic fitters of all types of contact lenses since the 1960’s. Successful contact lens fitting is all about making the process easy and uncomplicated.

We hold a large stock of disposable contact lenses and a vast trial lens inventory to demonstrate the latest innovations in lens design and materials ensuring comfort and great vision for full and part time lens wearers.

Low Vision Aids

Sadly a growing number of older Australians are experiencing poor vision due to macular disease. Good lighting, appropriate spectacles and visual aids can often improve reading and simple tasks like managing financial accounts.

Visual aids are prescribed after an examination and ordered for best effect in combination with your existing spectacle prescription to achieve a comfortable working distance.

Cambodia Vision

We support Cambodia Vision which is a not for profit organisation which focuses on blindness prevention in rural Cambodia.

We assist with fund raising and the donation of our redundant stock. Donations of old spectacles are appreciated these are cleaned and measured for use. All frames and spectacles are taken directly to the field by representatives of Cambodia Vision to ensure they reach people in need.

Cambodia Vision aims to deliver 200 cataract and 1000 medical and optometric services each year.

eye technology

Eye Technology

Every routine eye examination includes an Optos wide screen retinal image. This revolutionary technology takes a detailed image of the retina at the back of the eye and records the image so as it can be compared over time.

Optos images can be used to detect subtle changes which can indicate the development of eye disease such as macular degeneration and glaucoma. This technology is vital in the detection of structural disturbances in the retina and is of great value in the prevention of sight threatening retinal detachment.

Additionally OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) is available to further investigate structural anomalies in the eye and to detect and monitor changes in the retinal which may require referral to an ophthalmologist for treatment.
