Peter Hewett is a third generation optometrist. His maternal grandfather William Patterson and his father Lloyd Hewett both practiced in the Sydney CBD caring for city workers and their families for over 70 years. In 1993 Peter and Carolyn opened a practice in Mosman to service their local community.
A lot has changed since the genteel days of upstairs practice at Challis House Martin Place but the core values set over three generations to serve a community with dedication and continuity remain unchanged. While we embrace the latest technology and boutique optical fashion we continue to manufacture onsite and value highly our close personal relationships with our patients just as Peter’s grandfather and father did. We proudly count many families who have seen at least two generations amongst our patients. While Billy’s patients are now thin on the ground we still enjoy seeing an elderly gent who was wheeled into to see him in a pram over 80 years ago.
We look forward to celebrating a hundred years of Hewett in 2023.

Orthoptist; Practice Manager
Carolyn has worked with Peter for almost 30 years. She is the practice frame buyer and she has an encyclopaedic knowledge of frame history and design.
Many well-known fashion eyewear brands were given their first opportunity in Australia in the city practice in the 80s and 90s and the Hewetts count many international frame designers amongst their friends. Carolyn believes that travel to Europe and Asia is important to seek out and find new up and coming designers. While she loves French eye wear first and foremost many innovative avant-garde products are being developed in Japan and Korea and are taking up a position in the practice inventory.
Chris has been with the practice for 5 years, is therapeutically trained and he is able to prescribe prescription medications for the eyes. He is a foundation member of YO (Young Optometrists) a professional group which furthers clinical and business education for members of the profession in their first 10 years in practice.
Chris has a special interest in myopia in young people and specialises in contact lens fitting to reduce myopic progression.
